The Mirage is not rated for towing. By towing with this generation Mirage you assume responsibility for any mishaps that may result.

The questions that you are posing make me question if you really understand what you are getting into. Replacing the rear springs for greater load capacity will not improve the performance of the brakes.

Anyone install a hitch for a G4 yet? If so which one did you get?

Just installed the Curt 11394. Easy install. The directions say to enlarge one of the holes in the frame on the driver side. I was able to avoid doing this by running the hardware through the larger holes in the bumper (see this video). I prefer not to drill into the frame if I don't need to.

Haven't towed yet. Will update when I do. I don't plan to exceed ~1/2 the rated capacity of the hitch (which is 1,200lbs). While I can't forget that this car is not rated for towing, the rated max cargo load is 900lbs - 1,000lbs (gross vehicle weight - curb weight). As long as the combined weight (internal + tow) doesn't exceed this then I figure the brakes should be able to handle the weight with responsible driving.

[EDIT] Even if you are not exceeding the gross vehicle weight rating, braking hard at any speed poses a very real risk of jackknifing. As Eggman noted you have to take responsibility for the choice.

Any reason you went with the Curt over the DrawTite?
