I was told to check it parked, engine off.
Was also told not to worry about it for the most part as it is checked at every service. If i don't see a puddle under the car, no issue.
As for how it was running, we never figured that out.
It smoothed out and ran fine for 25,000 km...
Now it's sitting at dealership waiting for a new motor.
Good news is tranny is fine.

    Will weld for beer.

    CVT fluid check procedure

I want to check trans oil level (CVT).
    1) Check is done with engine running and transmission fluid at normal operating temperature 50-80C (122-176F).
    2) Park on level surface.
    3) Move selector lever to all positions, then set in P or N.
    4) Remove and wipe the transmission fluid dip stick, reinsert and remove and read fluid level.
    5) The transmission fluid level should be within the “H” area on the dip stick.

Condensed from multiple sources. Use caution and safe practices.

Has anyone noticed their CVT fluid being a little low? Without a scan tool I can't see what the trans fluid temp is and adjust according to the scale above, but I've noticed after several drives of varying distance that the fluid level seems to be a little too low.

Two questions then - Anyone else experienced this, and will a generic OBD-II scan tool give a live readout of the trans fluid temp on these cars so that I can confirm my suspicion?

I thought mine might be a little low too but after a one hour drive I checked it the other day. It was fine. Doesn't hurt to check though. Proper fluid level in a CVT is critical for longevity.

Old thread, but wondered if anyone needed to add (or, top off) their cvt fluid, and if so, at what mileage? Thanks.

CVT is sealed and there's no way for it to burn oil. So if you have to top it up, you have a leak. You should never need to top up, just drain and fill every 150,000 km. Or more often if you want to get more life out of the transmission.

OK so I just changed the side cartridge filter, also dropped the pan and changed the screen filter and put a new gasket on. I just want to make sure that the consensus was that we check the fluid when the car is running and not off. Can someone please confirm, I’d really appreciate it.

Follow the procedure as outlined in the owners manual exactly. It's not a simple idle and check.

I don’t have a factory manual , but I have read all of the posts. It just says to put the car in park I just want to confirm that the car is still running when I check it. I know to shift between all gears to fill up the torque converter, and to check at operating temp. I’m at 80k and I want to make sure I get the most life out of my cvt as possible. Thank you all for your input.
