    Oil Filter Draining Down

I experienced the Mitsubishi OEM oil filter draining down back into the oil pan after the car sat for a few hours. This caused a dry start on the engine bearings. It would take an extra second or so for the oil pressure light to extinguish during startup. I installed a Bosch replacement D3323 with has the anti drain back valve. Problem solved. The Purolator PL14610 would work too.

Interesting ... how did you determine that it was draining out, with the filter on?

I hadn't checked the OEM original filter for an anti-drainback valve when I removed it for my first oil change, but now I'll have to go back and take a look at it to see for myself.

After sitting all night, I pulled the filter and verified it was empty. Bought another Mitsubishi filter, same issue.

In my twist-on motorcycle filters, I would actually pour some oil into the oil filter.

For my 'submerged' motorcycle filters, I would pre-soak the oil filter before I would start the engine.

Never thought this would be an issue for cars though.

The original filter was a 1230A105 and so was the replacement from the dealer. Then went to the Bosch.

Only a problem when filters are mounted horizontally or from the top down. Then the internal check valve needs to work.
