Thumbs up Our of morbid curiosity, I checked out the Spark forum...

...And more than half the posts are about issues with the car! Wow. Apparently I dodged that bullet (the Spark was one of my candidates). I've barely seen threads here related to car problems. Amazing.

One more reason why most car reviewers are full of crap.

Since the Mirage came out in Thailand two years ago, the following major problems have been reported (as far as I know):

    • Fuel tank sensor recall (drivers running out of fuel due to erroneous reading)
    • ABS sensor recall (preventive - I've never heard of anyone actually experiencing issues)
    • CVT starter engagement problem (addressed with warranty repairs - never heard of it occurring recently)

...and aside from some paint-related issues reported here, I think that's pretty much it, and they've all been resolved by the manufacturer a while back.

What impresses me about the Mirage overall is that it's just a very well-thought out design. It is an honest-to-goodness cheap car but a lot of consideration has been given as to where to cut costs, instead of just shaving the last 10c out every single component.

Holden rebrands it in Oz as the Barina Spark , but it actually came from GM's Daewoo division in South Korea. Same as the previous gen. Chevy Aveo.

I haven't heard much about the CVT starter / flywheel defect recently either, but I'm pretty certain I heard it happen in a YouTube review of a U.S. car. Check the ~1:24 mark in this video...

In Mitsu's defense, the company has said that the media fleet cars are "pre-production" (so they could get them into reviewers' hands ASAP).

Common issues with the daewoo made holdens is oil usage. The craptivas suffer badly, the commodore utes use oil more than fuel.
The spark is ugly compared to the mirage. I now love my little white beast.
