would be funny if Mitsu also apologized for underrating the Mirage fuel economy.

Then American owners would have to compensate them... never mind then.

Good for Ford for stepping up and calling themselves out, that's respectable.

Actually, it did not really seem to affect the Fiesta's #'s. It only dropped the mpg's by 1, don't think Fiesta owners will be too mad at that. Now as for the other models, that's another story.

Hmm....kind of makes me want to send Mitsubishi a check for the underrated MPGs just to see what happens.

Agreed. While of course it would be better to have this at the outset - recognizing that a mistake was made and correcting it should also be applauded. I am more concerned about the ratings being comparable across makes/models/trim levels than 100% accurate for real world. If Car A gets 35mpg and Car B gets 37, it should be fact that Car B will do better under identical conditions.

Sort of reminds me of this truck issue: http://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/f...w-ratings.html

Where it seems Toyota was the first to step up.

    That's too funny.

I definitely feel Mitsu understated the ratings on the car in the States.

    ---

As for Ford proactively admitting their "mistake", I'm not willing to be as generous. The EPA has increased its auditing of automakers' mileage claims as a result of earlier problems with Ford and Hyundai's mileage "mistakes" last year. I wouldn't be surprised if Ford realized they were about to get nailed and had no choice but to come clean.

    1. I don't think mitsu understating ratings in the US as I'm getting about the sticker-posted numbers. They just figured that not everyone will hypermill like y'all do.

    2. Ford's doing better at being 'proctive' than Government Motors.
