I would strongly advise against tucking your sideview mirrors. It is not worth it safety wise and aerodynamic wise. You will save more by accelerating as slow as the driver behind you will tolerate. I get 49 miles per gallon on average, in colder weather than Tampa. Though I have a CVT and probably get a little more because of that. It's good to be under 60-I keep to 50 when I can.

thanks for the advice highwire! it was a two lane country road just wanted to see what a difference it would make and haven't done it since. I see pepps putting up big #'s and wanted to see what I could get. car only has 411mi on it so I hope mpg's go up as the car wears in. still double what I did in my last car.

Hello flgrown and welcome to the forum.

I think you'll have fun learning how to make the most of your Mirage. Congratulations on your new purchase.

    First 70 MPG trip

    70 MPG (US) = 3.4 L/100 km indicated

    This was for a 79 km / 49 mile one-way trip.

I've seen multiple trips in the low to mid-60's this (mild) winter, and the occasional high-60's, but this was the one I've been waiting for.

Conditions were decent: mild (3C / 37F), with dry roads. The key elements were a 15 km/h / 9 mph quartering tail wind and light traffic.

Route: max posted limit of 80 km/h / 50 mph. Average speed of 37 mph (dragged down by slower speeds and multiple stop signs/red lights while passing through 3 towns on the trip), max speed of 98 km/h / 60 mph (downhill - ha!).

Frequent use of the engine kill switch made a big difference too.

I realize this is not 70 "actual" MPG - the display was 3-4% optimistic on the last couple of fill-ups compared to pump/distance calculations.

Also, it wouldn't have been a 70 MPG round trip because it would have been a head wind on the way back - would have dropped the numbers to low-60's probably.

But it's still fun to see!

Next up: 75? Will require much warmer weather, though.

Wow! I'll be happy to when I get over 500km to a tank. I wonder what you could get for economy in my truck? I've gotten a best of 20mpg mostly freeway 60-70mph, running studded tires, weighing about the same as 4 mirages.
I'm sure you could get over 30mpg easily without an mods.

Yeah, as long as it's geared high enough, you can get surprisingly good highway numbers from a big diesel pickup.

Also: I tried REEEEALLY hard to get 70 when at about 2/3 of the way through my trip I saw it was possible. But I don't want to have to concentrate on mileage that much in typical driving.

I managed to get down to 4.6l/100km(51MPG) this morning. About 8km in town 60-70kph and 12 km freeway around 80-90kph. I don't think I'll get better than that on my commute until it gets warmer and I switch tires out.

    Those are some good numbers.

This was yesterday's reading on my typical stretch of interstate.
I reset it once I was up to ~60mph, when I got on the interstate; and took the photo at the base of the off-ramp, 13 miles later.
Reading was right at 60mpg before I took my exit; that'll be roughly 3.9L/100km.

    No/minimal winds, ~70F, ~60% humidity, tires at ~38psi, no A/C, trying to drive ~58-60mph.
Altitude is 558' at the beginning, and 532' at end; with hills and valleys throughout.

This is one of the better short interstate trips I've had.
I'm usually in the mid 50s, with the rare low 60s.

I don't reset mine. I didn't realise that was a thing people did. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.....
So my truck is sooo good on fuel I only filled up once in the last 7 months and it wasn't even empty. So that's like really good right?
