    Good idea, bad execution.

    65 MPG tank?

I filled up Mirage #2 again yesterday and it came out to 64.5 MPG US = 3.68 L/100 km.

    Can we call it 65?

    Filled with 2 bars showing @ 719 km / 447 miles.

That may be the high-water mark for this year; probably the last warm weather tank that won't include at least some highway driving with the kayak sticking out the hatchback, which wrecks aero. That seems to be a 5-10% MPG penalty.

I actually looked at removing the factory spoiler on my last trip with the kayak, but I couldn't figure it out in the few minutes I had. I'll have to search to see if someone's posted the secret yet.

MPG on mine hasn't changed noticeably after the addition of the factory style spoiler a few years ago.

    Mine is ecomodded with:

    - higher tyre PSI (3.0Bar/45psi)

    - the very best LRR summer tyres (Conti Ecocontact5)

    - 3/4 grille block (no fan cycling, even in summer)

    - The brakes maintained perfectly, thus nill dragging

    - Temp sensor mod (see forum) https://mirageforum.com/forum/showthread.php/4165

    - Nut at the wheel adjusted accordingly

Unfortunately for reasons of a poor waranty repair, the compression is rather low, and that deteriorates MPG noticeably.

    Envious!

One of the best LRR tires in the Mirage's size is the Bridgestone Potenza RE92 (original equipment on the 2000-2007 Honda Insight). I may have the chance to get a set of used RE92's so I can do a comparison against our Dunlop Enasaves.

First 70 MPG tank for me

    Actual "B" gauge photo.

I filled up on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised with a 70 MPG US tank.

    That's 3.36 L/100 km = 70.6 MPG US (calculated at the pump, 3 clicks as usual) over 702 km / 436 miles.

Driving conditions were ideal since my last fill-up: hot, hot, hot, dry, and not very windy.

It was my usual summer travels: 95% on mostly deserted scenic rural highways with max posted limits of 80 km/h / 50 mph (most of the time on cruise control, tapping speed up & down for hills). Also includes passing through a bunch of little towns & villages where there are lots of opportunities to increase the MPG average using the kill switch on approach to reduced speed zones, stops & turns, etc.

This was my first time cracking 70 (for a tank) in a Mirage. And that'll definitely be this year's high water mark for the car - I'm going to park it sometime in the next week or 2 and put the MPGiata back on the road until mid-fall.

    Woohoo! Way to go.

    I don't think I'll ever see a 70mpg tank.

I drove from Saint George, UT to Springville, UT (255 miles at 80mph) and averaged 38.4 MPG. The car estimated 32 MPH for the first 104 miles, and 41.7 MPG for the next 151 miles. That means the car would have estimated about 37.7 MPG had I not reset it partway through, but I used 6.638 gallons over that drive so my actual economy was 38.4 MPG. Not too shabby for 80mph roads!

What I learned today: a Mirage can go 80 mph.
