I like the expression "we're in violent agreement."

I was going to say we're "vehemently agreeing", but the conversation is pretty mellow for that phrase!

Hahaha, awesome! Arguing about how we all agree about the same thing differently. I need more coffee.

Made my weekly "take the car out for some exercise" trip yesterday. Netted 59.8 indicated. Could have done better, but there was some traffic.

I try to be efficient while I'm just driving around wasting fuel.

Mini road trip the other day. 3 hours round trip. Around 95 miles total.

Google's quickest route would have been about 3 miles less and taken 30 minutes less, but traffic would have been a LOT more pushy, and speed limits up to 65 and 70 mph. I'd have netted maybe 40-45 mpg.

As it was, it was a casual hypermiling trip on back roads mostly. Mid-afternoon on a weekday, so not a lot of traffic.

On the trip out, I was slightly rushing to get there and targeting "at least 50 mpg", so I only saw 52.3 mpg. I reset for the return trip with a target of 60 mpg, I was a bit more diligent, and I think traffic was flowing better. 59.5 mpg for the return trip. That's "indicated", so subtract about 4%. Still, not too bad!

I'm finding 60+ is hard to achieve while remaining committed to not using the starter. So if I'm engine-off-coasting, I'm always restarted and idling before I stop. There's probably and easy 5mpg in just leaving the car off and using the starter to restart when ready to go.

Also, I just made a short trip to the grocery store and the bank. Worst possible trip. It's about 2 miles there and 2 miles back, and at least 6 stops along the way. Cold start, and not enough of a trip to really even warm the car up. But, with liberal use of the kill switch, parking in a place that allowed me to walk to both the bank and the grocery store, and was quick and easy to get out of, and getting lucky with one of the traffic lights... I saw 49.5 (indicated) on that trip. If I'd just "driven it" without thinking about it, that would have surely been around 32 mpg.

I still haven't installed my new battery and solar charger. Once I do that, maybe I can do some of that non-idling while stopped thing?

Ugh. Took 300-mile trip on the highway going the speed limit of 75 MPH and couldn't break 36 MPG. But it was nice to have cruise control in this 2020 that I didn't have in my 2014.
