Question Fuel Economy Log (Partial fill-ups)

Can anyone explain what I messed up here? I've not been successful logging partial fuel-ups on the forum yet. All values were taken from Fuelly. Probably something simple I'm missing.

Oh great, my 200th post is about how I can't do math, lol.

You actually didn't mess anything up.

It would appear to me the Mirage Fuel Economy Log doesn't have a way to deal with a partial fill. Unlike the Fuelly app that has the 'Partial Fill' click box.

Really the only way to deal with it would be at your next fill. It will be abnormally low if you fill the tank up. Because, something like this: You'll go 150 miles but add in 8 gallons.

It would be at that next fill recording that you can even it out by averaging the 2 miles covered and averaging the amount of gallons over those 2 tanks. In the end, the average mpg (of the complete history) would still be correct, but you would lose a bit of accuracy granularity on those 2 tanks.

Oh wait. You've already filled that next tank. And it was abnormally low.

You're going to have to do as I described above, on the 2 side by side entries. The bright green (abnormally high) and the red (abnormally low).

And what I mean is: You have to go back in and Edit each of those 2 outliers.

    Over those 2 fills you covered: (322 + 73 = ) 395 miles
    Over those 2 fills you consumed: (1.817 + 3.577 = ) 5.394 gallons.

That's still 73.23 mpg. So, you'll have to do this again, on even that next tank, the 2nd low one.

    So, that's:

    Over those 3 fills you covered: (322 + 73 + 192 = ) 587 miles
    Over those 3 fills you consumed: (1.817 + 3.577 + 8.555 = ) 13.949 gallons.

That's 42.08 mpg. So after editing all 3 of those entries, your mpg for all 3 of those will be the same 42.08 mpg on each of those entries. Each entry would be you know, something like 195, 196, 196 miles. And 4.56 gallons on each of those fills.

It doesn't change your overall mpg average, it simply smooths out those outlier entries.

Thanks for the insight into that. I might go in and try that later.
