Gatineau, Quebec – June 9, 2014 – Michael & Marina Sturrock achieved a miserly 4.0 L/100 km (71 mpg) in a 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage at Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada’s recent Fuel Economy Challenge. The Sturrock’s fuel economy was nearly 10 percent better than Natural Resources Canada’s EnerGuide rating, and confirmed Mirage as Canada’s most fuel efficient gasoline powered subcompact. |

The Laval, Quebec-duo were among eight couples driving Mirage hatchbacks from here to Hawksbury, Ontario, before crossing the Ottawa River and returning to the Quebec village of Montebello. The 270-km Challenge covered real-world urban and mild highway driving – through stop-and-go construction zones, varying elevations, sweeping curves and leisurely riverside roads. |
The Challenge coincided with Mitsubishi’s announcement of a new $2,500 purchase incentive on Mirage ES that brings the entry-level model’s price to $9,998. The Mirage ES with a five-speed manual transmission comes with many standard features, including: |
- Seven standard airbags and other safety features including Anti-Lock Braking System, Active Stability Control, Traction Control, Brake Override System, Brake Assist System and Electric Brake Force Distribution plus Mitsubishi’s Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) Body System which combines an impact energy-absorbing front end with a high-rigidity cabin structure.
- P165/65 R14 all-season tires, front disc/rear drum brakes, 140-watt, four-speaker audio system with CD/MP3, halogen headlamps, folding and power side mirrors, intermittent wipers, power front windows, tilt steering, multi-function information display and 60/40 split folding rear seat.
The Challenge also saw two Ottawa couples – Patrick Coleman & Haley Canavan, and Michael Osburn & Allison McKaskell – reach 4.3 L/100 km, still better than EnerGuide’s most optimistic rating of 4.4 L/100 km (highway) for the Mitsubishi Mirage. |
“The Challenge results reflect what customers are already telling us – Mirage is the fuel economy king, achieving ratings that are better than advertised,” said Mitsubishi Motor’s vice president, Sales & Marketing, Tony Laframboise. |
When it was launched last September, the 2014 Mirage hatchback became Mitsubishi’s first subcompact car in Canada. Since then, Mirage’s top fuel economy, low entry price and leading warranty are resonating well with customers, noted Stéphane Lessard of Mitsubishi’s top-selling Canadian dealership, Gatineau’s Rallye Mitsubishi. |
“Our customers love the Mirage. The results of the Fuel Economy Challenge and the new $9,998 price point confirms Mirage is the best automotive value in Canada,” he said. |
