If the car sits over night or all day while I'm at work, it has the clattering sound, likely from somewhere in the the top end of the engine, for about 5 seconds after start. The oil doesn't appear to be low (tough to read because it's so clean). I've experienced this with much older cars, but never on a brand new one. I'm sure it's just because the oil has drained out of the head, so it's noisy until it's pumped back up there immediately after start.

I like the idea of the slightly heavier oil, but wonder if this would cause a hit in the mileage. Anyone have comments on that? Or how about the momentary clatter on start up if the car sits for about 8 hours? I'm not too concerned about this, but it would be interesting to know if this is typical of the car, or if it's sort of unique to mine. If the latter were the case, I might bring it up to the dealer, tho I'm sure they's say 'normal behavior'.
If the oil filter you are using doesn't have a anti drain back flap (such as the OEM filter or if it's not functioning properly) you'll get valve train noise until the oil pump refills the filter and pumps oil back through the system. I would change to a different brand of filter and I'm running 5-30 synthetic. Eliminated cold start up chatter and eliminated the "sewing machine" sound at operating temp. Sounds much better and no difference in fuel economy.
