My wife and I took a weekend country road trip where the speed was consistently like 35-50 mph, for that trip my mpg was over 50. I read somewhere the "sweet speed" for best mpg was around 50 miles per hour. unfortunately this is HARD(read impossible)
to do on an expressway!

Generally the best rule of thumb is highest gear (and a locked up torque converter for automatics), low rpm for best mileage.
Here is a speed vs mpg chart for a manual and CVT Mirage:

I just don't know of a road long enough to test the 60kph MPG. Most 35mph roads around here are half a mile or so long and have stop lights or stop signs. The only roads long enough to actually get a decent reading are freeways. Over here, you'll get run over unless you're doing 65mph.
Hi,DonHoot. I was doing between 50 and 65 MPH and I got 50.1 I guess it depends on how broke in your car is.I have just 3,000 on it so far.Just keeps getting. Better each day. I noticed at the dealer on the new mirages. They havethe MPG wrong. They have it 42 hwy and I think. 37 city.mine gets 42 city and now 50 hwy.I think they would sell more if they tell the buyers that

My 15 Mirage has 28 miles on it and gets about 42hwy at 65...I just can't drive much slower and not get run over. 40+ is a good number. However, I'm putting a low restriction exhaust on the car and I want to put a cold air intake. Those changes to my Accent yielded 2.5mpg. I'm hoping the Mirage will be similar.
