DIY: 2017+ Rear Reflectors swapped to LED's

So last week, I was behind a Lancer and noticed the rear reflectors looked just like the ones on the back of my '17 Mirage. After some research, they looked identical except just upside down.

So I decided to take a risk and order a pair of clear ones off Ebay, search 'Lancer Bumper Led.' I ordered the clear set that has clearance, brake, and reverse functions. There are many options available.

Once received, I compared the physical size and they matched perfectly. So I decided to install them.

First thing I did was remove the wheel well shields on both side, and then I could see the screw I needed to remove to remove the reflector. Remove the screw and the reflector pops out.

Next, remove both tail lights by removing the two screws on each and pull the housing towards you and it will pop out. Remove the three harnesses in each and set the housings aside.

Now you'll need to install the new reflectors in their new home. First, you'll need to drill out the hole closest to the center of the car on each side with a 1/2 drill bit. This is where the wires will go through.

Run the wires through the hole on each side and screw the screw back in from the back side. Bring the wires out through the top of the bumper cover, you'll be attaching these to your tail light harnesses.

The next step is up to you. You will need to attach the proper wires from the reflector to the right one on the tail light harnesses. Don't use quick-connects I stripped and soldered my connections, then taped the hell out of it. The color of wires and function are listed below for the tail lights.

    Drivers Clearance: Green/Red
    Drivers Brake: Green/Yellow
    Drivers Reverse: White/Blue

    Passenger Clearance: Green/Red
    Passenger Brake: Green/Yellow
    Passenger Reverse: White/Blue

I used the black wire from the reverse bulb as ground.

I the tested the function of the reflector and re-installed the tail lights, and wheel well guards. I think it looks great.

I like it. Not only does it look nice, but having brighter lights on the back of a small car in a world of SUV's will only help make it a bit more visible and hopefully a bit safer.

Great, now I want a '17. I thought the '17 rear bumper was cool before, I like it even better now. Awesome write-up!

I just feel like the others, very good writeup!
Those lights would not be legal in Denmark, but what the if some one would like to have these, just mount the Org, ones, if the car needs to go to a check

Very nice write up, so yours light up light up with the reverse and the brake? you may need to put some red reflector tape so your car shine when park on the street at night.

Yep that's how they light, and nope, I won't be using any reflective tape. If that was the case, I would've stick with red reflective lights instead of clear. I'm not too worried about that happening.
