You can find CVT fluid for cheap, but I don't know if its okay to use. This stuff is available in canada for 9.5 CAD

Unless it's certified for Mitsubishi specs I'd steer clear. The manual page 9-9 gives this information:

    Oil type

Use only “Mitsubishi Motors GenuineCVTF-J4” transmission fluid to ensure optimum transmission performance.

    CAUTION

Using the improper transaxle fluid may damage the transaxle.

Everything and more about the CVT. 144 pages

Lots and lots of info to digest. Specs for fluid don't allow for any substitution.

...sigh. Anybody have a price for the real stuff thats worth it? It looks like mitsubishi themselves charge $18.5, my guess for the quart. If that's the case, I don't imagine I'll be able to get this done in Canada at an inexpensive cost.

I'm guessing if I don't get it done at 48, they'll give me trouble if there are any warranty repairs needed.

Here is a write up on how to change the trans oil yourself. Its not a difficult task.

Daox, I'm glad you brought that up. One of the transmission articles I was reading over the weekend pointed out a drain plug on the bottom of the CVT. I'd check mine, but I don't have one.

It is described as a drain with an overflow tube set inside. Use a hex (allen) wrench to remove the overflow tube to make it a drain.

As manufacturing transmission standards change, you must learn how to function without this handy tool
    ...
Using a Nissan CVT7 transmission as an example, located on the bottom pan is a 19mm drain plug. But when it is removed, located inside the threaded area, an internal tube with a hex head bolt will be seen (Figure 1). This is the check-level or “overflow” pipe (Figure 2). This check-level pipe can be removed (Figure 3), allowing the location to double as a drain plug.
Nevermind! It appears this applies to the Nissan CVT7.

The Mirage service manual for 2015 refers to a dipstick for the CVT.

Are you sure you don't have a drain plug. I thought so at first but it's on the higher side of the pan towards the front. You can't see it unless you really stick your head under there. Plus if you use aftermarket fluid and run into a problem don't expect your warranty to help you.

I have the manual transmission, and have no experience with the CVT. Maybe one day I'll get to drive one.

It sounds like a solid transmission, especially in the Mirage where it is designed to handle about twice the power of what the 3A92 is able to produce.
