Why Cant i tow with a mirage

I see there is a towing kit from curt for my mirage why is my manual stating not to tow anything.

Probably because it is not designed for towing, and the addition of a towbar will compromise the crash safety. Plus, what would you be able to tow? My trailer weighs more than the car!

I need to move motorcycles and the trailer I have only weighs around 221 pounds by itself plus 400-500 of the motorcycle I don't think that would strain stuff to much. I mean the outlander sport ive read says same thing not to tow but then the Canadian version has a tow capacity but the us doesn't. And curt has a kit for the mirage why would a company like curt design a hitch to tow if the manufacture says not too?

does not void the warranty, i run a custom shop and have done work on the mitsubishi's already. not the mirage, but will soon. as long as you stay under the tow rate you will not void anything.

also you can have a dealer do an add on hitches even aftermarket as long as it is not a one off frabtication and still fall under factory warranty. just like your fog light, you can add oem lights yourself cheaper but they are not covered in the warranty because it was not listed at the time of purchase. its in your owners manual.

Not sure about all this. If you take your car, a car which the manufacturer expressly says should not be used for towing, in for a warranty claim because the subframe developed a crack or the body developed a tear in the structural sheet metal and the dealer sees a tow hitch on the car, I think you might run into a problem?

Sheesh...these cars seem to have enough problems with things like rear end alignment. The rear axle looks like an upside down aluminum rain gutter. The suspension is mushy, under-dampened,' and unsettled. The body rolls like hell in hard turns. The stock tires are tiny and grip-less. And this car has the tiniest rear brakes I have ever seen. Why add 500 pounds of swinging trailer to the mix???

Most cars, including other Mitsubishi models, are designed with light towing in mind and are built to accommodate it. But Mirages are SIMPLY NOT DESIGNED FOR TOWING!

You asked why the manual says not to tow, that's what I answered. If you were to ask "should I tow with my Mirage?", you would get a different answer. Personally I have towed with vehicles that are not supposed to be used for towing, and have had no issues. However, if I had had an accident, you can bet the insurance company would be very quick to point to the "not to be used for towing" line in the manual. As to why Curt design towbars, I would suggest that they intend them to be used in markets where Mitsubishi state that towing is allowed, or for carrying pushbike racks, etc.
