I've been having random lockups when trying to reply to forum threads too. I've also had a few Safari crashes since the upgrade. Seems that Safari in iOS8 isn't very stable (at least for me).
On the plus side, aside from a few Safari quirks, iOS8 has been problem free (for me).
Nevermind. 8.0.2 updated fixed it.
