    It was an existential moment.

I contemplated the void... and flinched: I added 3 L (0.8 US gal) of gas that I was carrying.

I added another 31 L (8.2 US gal) when I got back to my preferred gas station (about 30 km / 19 mi. away), which means I put ~ approx. 34 L (9 gal) total into a 35 L tank. Not counting the volume of the filler neck.
But what about your fuel pump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't read so there's no worry about me discovering anything.

Is there another cheap Mirage for sale? Hmm?

I'm gonna see how brave I get before filling again. I got impatient and filled up with over 1/2 tank left just so I could see what I was getting for economy.

Yesterday drove about 8 miles at around 40 mpg with the empty bars flashing. Refilled with 7.2 gallons. I think the driver must be blind to run out of gas in these cars after the indicator starts flashing.

In my driving position I can’t see the fuel gauge without leaning forward, so I occasionally cut it close, but haven’t put more than 8.7 gallons in.

You must really lean back in your seat?

If you have added 8.7 gallons once, you have had your tank pretty low in my opinion.
