You're a wealth of information! This forum helped make my choice in buying a 2015 Mirage ES. I am very happy with this car. I bought the manual transmission (wanted to keep the cost at a minimum, and I enjoy shifting my own gears). However I find the final gear a little on the high side, 3000 rpm at 100km/h (60mph). I think Mitsubishi has done this to reduce downshifting on inclines or even strong headwinds especially if you have a car full adults, since we're dealing with limited HP. Nevertheless, I think if the rpm were somewhere around 2500, that would be sufficient. I'm wondering if a transmission shop could change that 5th gear ratio, as in machining a custom gear?

Hi there, I think Mitsubishi wants to keep the cost low. They don't make 2 different transmissions for manual. As 3000 rpm on 100 km/h is a good one for my car (1.0L, otherwise it will be very unresponsive). Everyday I drive on a highway that goes from 70 km/hour limit to 100 km/hour limit then 120 km/hour limit. 100 to 120 (3000 rpm to almost 4000-ish) it's not really a problem but it took me twice as long to get from 70 to 100 (2.200 rpm to 3000 rpm). It lacks the power so it has to keep the rpm high for the engine response. It's a different story with CVT though, as it has accelerate gearing and eco gearing.

Actually, they do. The Euro & Japan manual transmissions have a taller final drive ratio and different top gear ratio than the rest of the world gets.

Welcome!!! I do agree with you on the manual and the revs but for some reason I have learned to like it! Hmm! It just feels like I have more power when I am on the highway and able to pass better than I thought I would with its small engine.
