Cheap used Mirages you've seen for sale?

That's an unheard of price for Honda Fit (even one with a few miles on it). $995 ($822 USD) is cheap!

There are 17 different 2008 Honda Fits within 500 miles of my place on cars.com. They range in price from $3495 (181,000 miles) to $11,795 (31,00 miles).

Yeah, it is unusually cheap for a Fit. This one has rust starting over the rear wheel arches -- I believe Honda fans refer to it as Hondarust [TM].

The AC also doesn't work -- this is a common failure on Honda Fits & Civics of this vintage.

And from a car dealer's perspective, the fact that it's a manual may be worse than non-functional AC. Nobody wants manuals anymore. [Only us eccentrics!]

I have only seen pics of the car so far -- it's 200 km from here -- but I think I'm going to get it. Keep it to use for next winter, then tidy it up, get it inspected, and sell it for a small profit.

There are 5 2008 Fits with A] manual transmission, B] over 200k kms [120k miles], C] within 1000 km of me. Prices range from $2200-3000 CAD. Not sure why they seem to be cheaper here than in the US.

Well, I just bought that Fit. $800 + tax. I've always wanted to try one.

That's the first time I've ever bought I car I haven't laid eyes on, never mind test-driven. Been watching too many episodes of ViceGrip Garage, I guess. There's even a road trip involved.

Here's the worst of the rust. My friend says it isn't SO bad that it would fail inspection:

The first thing I basically bought sight unseen was the black Mirage. Well, I didn't pay til it arrived but would have ahead of time. I just put a deposit on a toy hauler I won't see in person until Thursday...Helping the world go down the crapper is fun!!

My 2000 Honda CR-V was rusting over the rear wheels back in 2013. That does seem to be a common issue on Honda vehicles. A/C problems with Hondas are also common, but I never had an issue. I don't use A/C much, however. In your case, you won't need A/C for a winter car. You may even remove it with less remorse than disabling the working A/C on your Mirage.

$800 + tax is a very good deal for a Fit even with the rust spots. I did find one more affordable Fit in the Milwaukee area. $2,999 for 2008 Honda Fit manual with under 92,000 miles on it. If you look closely at the pics in the ad, you can see the bottoms of the rear doors are quite rusted. It's still very dependable transportation if one is short on funds.

If I could bring back a couple vehicles from the past, the 1st generation Honda CR-V would be my first pic. The late 1980's Honda Civic Wagons with Realtime AWD would be near the top of my list, too. I like boxy looking vehicles. I am weird!

My first car was a Honda Wagon. I sort of have a soft spot for them. I really like how Honda engineers their rear seats in their vehicles.

I look forward to your Mirage & Fit comparison in the future. In my mind, they are slightly different vehicles (not exactly in the same class). I somewhat use a Honda Fit, however, to gauge the value of what a Mirage should be worth.

When a 2020 78 hp Mirage ES CVT's MSRP was only $1500 less than a 2020 130 hp Honda Fit LX CVT, I felt Mitsubishi marketing of the Mirage was a bit out of whack. I realize Mitsubishi offers larger discounts, but unless one explores that the Mirage may be overlooked by some.

No plans to. But eventually, yes, when I find my Forever Mirage [base model stripper]. Besides, I need to keep it on hand in case the Fit turns out to be unreliable garbage as a winter beater.

Those were/are neat cars. And they're becoming collectible. People are starting to pay silly money for the few clean ones left.

This will be my 5th Honda: 84 Civic hatch [first year of the bread van style]; 89 Accord; 00 Insight; 07 Civic sedan. All of them DIY gear changers.
