How much time you think you have before it fails?

There was a poster on reddit showing an estimate receipt to replace his clutch on his Outlander Sport. The shop he went to quoted him almost 3 grand because there is no aftermarket clutch kit for even their most popular vehicle, unbelievable. I imagine the OEM clutch kit on a Mirage will be even more expensive.

That is simply not true. I can get a clutch kit from -

My local Auto Zone store for $221.99 (limited lifetime warranty).

Ebay for $129.95 with free shipping.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Clutch-...4AAOSw6NVePHAv

Amazon for $103.97 with free delivery & free returns.

To say there are no aftermarket part for a Mirage is simply not true. You may not find as many choices as a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic, but aftermarket parts for the Mirage exist for many things including clutch kits.

The same clutch kit for a 2017 Honda Fit is $219.99 @ Auto Zone. Seems to be about the same price to me.

This. I haven't had any issues finding aftermarket for my car.

Well, work isn't able to source aftermarket drums for the 2015 cars. One out of town car that I never work on apparently needed drums, I probably have a set or two left in the bone yard but they're probably grooved. $350/piece from the dealer. Shoulda ordered a set from rock auto.
It'd probably be cheaper to buy a used complete trailing axle with brakes from a 2017 car then buy new more readily available and cheaper raybestos drums and shoes.

But for a novice like myself will a shop install those? I'm just curious really. Did you see his itemized estimate? I'm guessing that shop would only warranty OEM parts?

My mechanic has installed parts I bring in. That said, I have an established & good relationship, and I don't do it often.

I wonder if they prefer you order through them because of extra markup on the part prices?

It's usually more convenient to have a shop order parts. I wouldn't hesitate to walk into a shop with a handful of parts and ask them to install them.

I always often install parts for people who bring their own parts, though it's pretty annoying when you are halfway through a job and discover they supplied the wrong parts.
