Question should I flightcar my Mirage?

    Hello,

I am about to leave for a longer trip by plane and stumbled upon a parking service called flightcar.
The basic principle is that you get free parking at the airport, but they might rent the car to third parties during your absence.

Doing some googleing on that matter, I've read some harsh reviews on this service and am now wondering what your thoughts were.
I guess we've all faced the experience of bad critique for our Mirages, but had mostly pleasant times with this car. Likewise, I am now torn between experimenting with this new thing, or going oldschool on the economy parking lot (would cost me 210 bucks).

    thx for your insights.

    All the best
    Fabian

Hmmm I Don't like the idea unless they insure against damage. And is there a mileage limit or can they just rack up unlimited miles?
Then again 210 dollars is a lot of cash just to park, and the car could be damaged or broken into at the econo park.

I vote pay the econo lot because I don't want strangers driving my car.

they provide insurance, but in one of the reviews a user stated that it was a lot of work getting them to pay up. The mileage is around 90 per day and for every-mile more the owner gets paid 0.35 cents.

I had the same thought about the econo lot, i.e., somebody could damage the car, or the snow plowers could do some harm...

Are you flying out of BWI? Back around the mid 90s my family was going on a week long trip and there was a threat of snow, so we drove from Arlington, VA to a hotel near BWI which offered a shuttle. From what I recall, since our car stayed in the hotel parking lot for the week that just about offset the cost of the night at the hotel.

Of course, getting a friend to drive you is another good idea.

Leave your car at home.. taxi to and from airport.
    likely less than $210.00

(Most of us wouldn't even consider buying a used rental car, why on earth would you turn yours into one?!)

well, I've done it and I agree, it felt weird to let go of the key.
I will make a calamity analysis in three weeks, hope it turns out to be ok...

I wouldn't. I treat rentals as my own but everyone else talks about crazy abuse.

I wouldn't do that even crazy. Insurance and everything, just think about the worries and paperwork that it'll take to get a fair compensation if something happens to your car. Besides, the feeling of letting strangers drive my car wouldn't make me exactly comfortable.
