    Another first oil change thread.

    Sorry in advanced

The mirage I want was built in September 2013, it has 142 miles on it. The owners manual says change the oil every 6 months or 7500 miles? I know it has the original oil in it, when should I change it? The dealer includes two free oil changes at no charge.

I was thinking 1,000 miles? I know the oil they are using is not the best and I would like the best for my first new car, mobile 1 0w-20/wix xp. Plus it is technically voiding the warranty in a way because the dealer didn't follow the maintenance procedure even though realistically the oil is still perfectly fine. I know when my wife called for her first oil change in her 2014 Lancer they told her wow you only have 3,000, call us at 7,000 to schedule it.

Every person will tell you something different. In my case, I just waited for the car to show the service icon at about 5 months and a half and put a new filter and Mobil 1 0W-20, ILSAC, API SL.

I would go with the 1000 mile change since having it sit that long might have lead to some condensation in there. It is relatively cheap to do and then you are not worried about it anymore. If you did not get the car yet, even better. Tell them you want an oil change on them before you take delivery of it!

Well I have it now, not sure if I would trust them to actually do the oil change before delivery, no real way to prove they did or didn't. I'll just change it myself to put my mind at ease. $25 for the standard MB1 0w20 at walmart with a basic Purolator PL14610 anti drain back valve filter.

Be careful with the Purolator ... there have been reports of tearing filter media on the BITOG forums, especially with the 14610.

Can't go wrong with Mobil1 0w-20. It's a port injected engine - so there's no reason you couldn't run the Mobil1 0w-20 out to 7500 or 10000 miles. The car is supposed to save money and resources. Oil is a resource

I think that's why some carmakers (like ford in my experience) do 500 mile oil changes...

I say there's nothing wrong with being safe, except it can be expensive. I'm doing 4000 mile oil changes. In the long run, it's more expensive than waiting for the wrench sign to come on, but I have peace of mind lol... Plus, at 4k miles, the engine sounds a lot louder than with fresh oil.

Ah I wonder if napa carries a wix if the 14610 is junk. I have the wrench light on currently how do I turn it off once I change my oil?

There's instructions in the manual for resetting the service interval.

    Will weld for beer.
