Edit: this loss could be minimized by moving the muffler closer to the tip or would it not make much difference?

I don't believe it would make much of a difference, if any as to the location of the muffler as the only thing that changes in the exhaust from the middle compared to the back of the exhaust is a slight temp decrease in the exhaust gasses.

Finally had the muffler installed today. Sounds great, and no loss of low end. I took it out on the highway and it seems to flow better.

OK so everybody know, if you straight pipe your mirage, you WANT to have the exhaust exit away for the the car, NOT under like from the factory.

Mine is stupid but its functional!!

I went ahead and got a custom exhaust done today. From the first cat back I went 1.75 to a 2.0 inch performance muffler, then 1.75 to the end. I couldn't be happier it sounds great, like a six at times. I don't have any info on the muffler it's the exhaust shop's brand. I went with stainless to last a little longer. When the weather warms a bit I'll get some video up here.
