how do i get my drums off?????

My 2014 mirage (24,000mi) needs front brakes already. For some reason the caliper doesn't float very well. The inner pad on the drivers side is about 30% but the outer pad is down to the backing.

I wanted to take the drums off to check the rears prior to running to the parts store. I can't get them off. I used penetrating oil, sledge hammer and pry bar, heated the drum with the acetylene torch etc. It's not coming off...any suggestions?????

24k miles! What kind of driving do you do? (Delivery?)

Drums: I'm going to assume you tried to slide the drum off the studs/hub, like in the old days. (I've done this before.)

Take the bearing dust cap off, remove the axle nut/washer and remove the bearing & then the drum. Repack the bearing with grease when you reinstall.

I commute 104 miles daily. About half of that in stop and go traffic. I think i'm going to call the dealer. Like i said, it appears to be a caliper malfunction because the outer pad is gone and the inner is about 30% left.

It looks like the drum is stuck on the bearing housing. i tried to heat it up but it wouldnt budge. It would be nice if it had the bolt holes in the face to pop it off. I'll try removing the bearing. thanks for the suggestion.

indeed it sounds like something's wrong. The brake pads on my other car lasted for more than 80.000 km

Make sure the e brake is off lol, sorry but I've seen people do this. Sometimes I've had to unadjust the shoes to get a drum off

The drum IS the bearing housing.... all one piece.
you have to remove locknut and bearings to get the drum off.

Its a cost saving design. Its worked well for other manufacturers too. This is how my Toyota Tercel and Paseo were. Its really not a pain to work on.

Never worked on one like this, but it sounds similar to my old Volkswagen beetle.
