(When I use the hand/park brake I set it while in neutral then let my foot off the brake pedal to allow the car to settle/move before I put it in park thereby alleviating stress on the park pin). Anyway, I have several times now inadvertently turned car off while still in neutral. I don't notice until I try to remove the key and it won't come out. So I put it in park, remove the key and life moves on. I have never had issues because of this. Car starts and drives normally every time.
I find it odd there would be an issue shutting it down in drive when there is a stop/start option for the Mirage. Would the engine not shut down and restart in drive with this option?
I would imagine it's more of the issue of shutting the car off while in drive for a couple of reasons. 1: You can't start a vehicle in drive due to unintended acceleration issues. 2: Shutting the engine off while in drive with the CVT interrupts the normal hydraulic pump operation of the transmission and the clutch packs in the transmission are engaged. I'm sure that the transmission probably has to reset itself to a startable condition and a interrupt is sent to the ecu of the car until the transmission basically "reboots".
