    Parts Availability?

Time to start replacing some stuff on the Focus. It needs brakes and front endlinks. Nothing out of the ordinary for its mileage.

While looking on Rock Auto , I looked what was available for the Mirage. Other than brake pads / shoes - seemed like nothing was available! That's kind of worrysome.

Where are people supposed to get brake rotors, wheel bearings, clutches ... for example. Dealer only? What if Mitsubishi does pull out of the US?

All new cars are like this, especially a car that doesn't borrow parts from other models. They should have parts available in a year or two.

It will be another year or two before parts start to show up. The car is too new.

Seems like the various parts would have been around for a while.

What happens if I bought one with a bad clutch? If I buy a used one I would like to replace the clutch before I start driving it every day. Would hate to pay dealer prices.

Why would you replace a clutch that isn't worn out?

I'd wait until I thought there were issues (slippage under high load, juddering engagement, etc).

If I buy one with like 40 or 50K miles - who knows how the previous person drove. The mirage I drove had no problem going by just letting the clutch out.

My Focus has 50K miles. The first 20 were all city. It's probably not going to get the life if the first 20K matched my driving now.

You'll have to buy the clutch from the dealer right now. Aftermarket clutches will eventually show up. But, even a poorly driven clutch should last 100k. I've seen Honda's with over 200k on the original clutch.

Agreed. Replacing a clutch as a preventative maintenance item would likely prove to be a waste of time and money at 50k. If it had 100-120K and you knew the previous owner was 17 years old, then it wouldn't be a bad idea.

In any case, I can't imagine a clutch disc for this car being exorbitantly expensive anyway - it's probably tiny!

Funny enough, I went to look for OEM parts dealers online and not even the dealer websites have the Mirage listed yet.

Exedy already made the clutch. I saw it on local part store, and several mirage has done it's clutch replacement. I guess that traffic here is beyond original clutch durability

Cool. I wonder if Exedy is the OEM for these clutches. They were on my subaru.
