Some Silly Geometry (minimum ramp breakover angle )

*Disclaimer - I don't really know what I am doing . . . this could be wrong - I did show my work.

I calculated the minimum ramp breakover angle of the Mirage at 14.878 degrees. I did this by using Wikipedia to show how it should be calculated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakover_angle and then this trig calculator http://www.carbidedepot.com/formulas-trigright.asp, using wheelbase/2 for "b" and minimum ground clearance for "a". I then took the calculated angle for B, doubled it, and subtracted it from 180 to get the break-over angle.

This assumes no load on the suspension, I expect. It also assumes the 6.3" minimum ground clearance is directly in the middle between the wheels - if this is not the case the angle would be better.

For comparison, the Honda CR-V has 16 degrees, Jeep Wrangler has 25.8 degrees and a Ford f-250 has 18.1 degrees (these were quick Google searches - also possibly not accurate).

So, will the Mirage be a good little off-roader? I suspect not, but it should have no trouble getting on and off ramps for ferrys, bridges, and mechanics lifts.

Edit - I found this - a good visual aid to the importance of ramp breakover angle: http://static.wfmynews2.com/video-ar...=1936900221001
