Don't forget there are 2 filters.

    Are they replaceable?

yup. You have to drop the oil pan to get to one, it's just a metal screen. The other one is a paper cartridge filter on the lh side of the cvt near the dipstick tube. Remove a 10mm bolt and turn cylinder shaped housing counter clockwise a little bit and pull the housing out, then the filter pulls straight out. It's easy to mess up the oring for the housing so it's a good idea to pull the inner fender so you can see what you're doing. Do a search on this forum for cvt failures, there should be lots of pics.

How to go about resetting the fluid deterioration level in the TCM? I guess this can only be done with an MUT scan tool?

I never bothered resetting anything after oil change or even after replacing entire cvt's. There's no light that comes on to tell you to change your fluid so it's kinda pointless. And yeah the dealer would have to do it unless you have their scan tool.

I replaced my fluid the other day and the cartridge filter. I'll change the pan filter at the 60k mark. The first drain and refill took 3.0 quarts. I drove it for a day and did a drain and refill again. This last time was 3.5 quarts. If you jack up the rear passenger wheel, you will get more to drain. So, mathematically ;0, 2 drain and refills with the amount I filled would now lead my CVT to have 5.08 quarts new fluid (68.65%), and 2.32 quarts (31.35%) original fluid. That's if there was the correct 7.4 quarts from the factory. I also installed a Fumoto Valve F103, to make it less messy and easier at the 60k mark, even though it wasn't too terrible with just the plug.

    Fumoto installed:

I also used Eneos Eco CVT Fluid, claims compatibility with the J4 CVT, less than $10 a quart.

Replaced fluid yesterday at 36K with Mitsubishi's CVTF J4 ($18.5/qt). The old fluid came out opaque green and the new one had a faint blue-gray color. With the front driver side jacked up, the pan emptied every 2.4qt more or less.

If the total capacity is 7.4qt and you can drain and refill 2.64qt at a time -per the Service Manual with the car on a level position-, you'll need 13.8qt to replace 90% of the fluid. 99% would take 27.6qt!
