transmission question (CVT -- little downshift felt when you come to a stop?)

For cvt owners...wondering about the little downshift felt when you come to a stop, is that the auxiliary gearbox dropping into low gear?
Usually when I come to a complete stop, I hear or feel it a second or two after stopping.
I stopped tonight, didn't wait a second or two and popped the car into neutral, at the same time the trans did it's 'downshift'. Exact time that I stopped and pushed lever to 'N', I heard the downshift noise also.
Don't see how it would hurt anything as long as these cvt's use clutch packs like conventional automatics. But thought I'd ask if anyone is more familiar with the Jatco cvt.
Wondering if I need to wait a few seconds after stopping to shift to neutral?
    Thanks.

It's either the auxiliary gearbox downshifting to first, or it shifting to neutral.

You don't have to shift a warm CVT to neutral - it has "idle neutral logic" and does it for you.

    See:
Thread: CVT owners... what is "Idle Neutral Logic"? And what is it like to drive?

Other users with 2014 model year cars seem to have this issue. When I had a 2015 to test, I didn't seem to have this issue. I think they may have reprogrammed things in 2015...

I seem to be unable to do a smooth "chauffeur" stop with the CVT

I have a 2015. The '14 I owned had a 'clunk', I know what you mean. This isn't really anything, just a slight downshift feeling when stopping or when just stopped.
I was concerned that I shouldn't be shifting into neutral upon stop but maybe should wait a second or two.

I own a 2015 CVT and I feel a surge when I come to a stop. Like it's still in 2nd gear and dropping to 1st.

I wonder if that's causing damage to your CVT with the presser in your trans shifting . Because years ago my friend was driving my Plymouth horizon front wheel drive auto, he slipped it in to gear before the car came to a complete stop, and that destroyed my transfer box of the trans!!!! One of the Gears put a big whole in my trans!!! I was real Hot!!! So I'm wondering if your taking the same chance doing that in the CVT? Because I learned the trick to driving the CVT when I Frist got my DE is I would come up to a stop sign or light and if I didn't come to a complete stop and then give it gas you would hear this clunk sound from the CVT. so if I didn't come to a complete stop I would Slowly give it gas there was NO clunk. Or if I came to a complete stop and then gave it Gas NO clunk.

I suspect it's ok, and I'm sure other people have done this because it's easy to do. I was coming out of drive, to neutral, and after stopped.
I was only wondering if shifting into neutral while the downshiftshift was occurring was harmful. Could both events happen at the same time? I suspect it can be done with no ill effect, from what I understand of the cvt.
Just something I'll try to remember: when stopping, wait a second for the trans to downshift before moving lever out of drive. It's unexpected for those of us used to conventional automatics.
The event was nothing dramatic but I pay attention to details. In fact, I had stopped completely... but hadn't been stopped for long. Maybe half a second. Immediately, I pushed the lever to neutral to settle into my driveway 'rut' (keeps pressure off the parking pawl, lol!). Heard the little 'thunk' as I went into neutral. So, the car was in, or in the process of, being in neutral as the downshift 'thunk' occurred. The cvt downshift is delayed (they all seem to do this, CVT-7's). I notice I have to wait at a stop for it to 'drop in' before I accelerate to take off, or I'll get a slight jerk as it engages. Once you get used to it, it's easy to drive it seamlessly with no jerking or 'clunk'. Kind of get a feel for it.
I believe it's ok, would really surprise me if it hurts anything. I just don't know cvt's as well as conventional automatics.

Well , that's good. Ever since I did that trick mine don't clunk anymore.
