Like you, I tend to take very good care of my things. And normally I would get upset about something like this. But I honestly consider my Mirage to be little more than a transportation appliance. I decided that am not going to obsess about dings or nicks, I am not going to 'trick it out', and I am not going to enter it in any car shows. I will keep it spotlessly clean and well-maintained.
This is a bargain-basement subcompact that really only has one job: MPG.
So I am just going to enjoy that reliable 50 mpg! It sounds like you have come to a similar conclusion, and if you are like me you will find it quite liberating!

Something that might help, Color matched Rino Liner. Might look good on the front/rear bumper and along the rocker panels.
And it isn't just the Mirage for sure. My $40,000 2011 Chevy Silverado as an example. While plowing a driveway, I lightly backed into a small tree I didn't see in my blind spot. Caught the rear bumper on the right side just before it curved to the side. Bumper caved in, which pushed into my bed, causing one heck of a huge crumple down the out side of the bed. $3,300 repair job. Back in the day, the bumpers where made to withstand a small hit. Not any more, their built out of bud light cans.

You cannot make a sub 2,000 lb car super strong. But i've hit plenty of things including a huge piece of paster board at 70mph.. and the bumper has held up amazing!
