    Plasti-Dipping emblems

I decided to black out my emblems with Plasti Dip.

Materials needed: Rubbing alcohol, paper towels, Plasti-Dip, and masking tape. Not pictured is toothpicks.

Use the rubbing alcohol to clean the emblems, you want them SUPER CLEAN and dry before applying the Plasti-Dip.

Mask off the area around the emblem, overspray can be removed but is a pain. For the front end, cover the air intake, you DO NOT want Plasti-Dip in your radiator.

The first coat should be very light, enough to cover but not completely.

Wait 5-10 minutes between coats. Apply each coat a little thicker and in a different spray direction.

You should put on 4-5 coats of Plasti-Dip, I did 6 due to Pennsylvania's wonderful gravel covered roads...

Wait 30 minutes after the last coat, remove the tape and the excess Plasti-Dip. TAKE YOUR TIME.

    Voila, black diamonds...

The pitiful amount of tape I used on the front end was a learning curve. Use a microfiber towel to clean off any overspray.

I prepared the tailgate in a much different fashion...

The finished product. All blacked out...

Getting the excess Plasti-Dip out of the letters is tedious. This is where the toothpicks come into play. TAKE YOUR TIME!

Total cost of this mod was $5.99 for the can of Plasti-Dip which I purchased from Lowe's. Total time to do the project was about three hours and a lot of that time is waiting between coats.

Nice write up. Pro-tip, use newspaper on those big areas like your hatch so you don't have to waste so much tape.

Definitely. I had no newspaper or any other kind of paper so I used masking tape. It also took a lot of time to mask all that versus just using paper.

    thx for the neat write-up.

I was determined to plasti dip the mitsu logo on my Dolly with pink plasti dip to make my lady friend a bit happy but could not get the proper color at homedepot.

    What do you think?
    Could that color work?

The color is all your own. If you like it, go with it.

This was the Plasti-Dip selection at my local Lowe's...

Alright, I found a pinkisch Plasti dip at pet boys and did work on the front and rear logos today. I regret a little having used a ****ty masking tape, since I had to rub a lot to get the tape residue off the hood.

Also, I was bored during the 30 minutes waiting time between coatings, so I started coating the hub covers as well.

    Below are some photos

    My lady friend is happy.
