Did Mirage change the way you drive your car?

Are you driving it differently then you used to?

    Hypermilling? Anticipating/planning moves in advance?

Enjoying nimbleness in the city/parking lot?

Did Mirage change the way you drive your car?

No, not really. I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited before and I was always trying to squeeze the best mileage I could out of it. I drive the same that I did before but now I get almost triple the mileage in town than I did with the Jeep.

    That's a good question.

I don't have one (yet), and I've been driving efficiently for many years, so I didn't really change anything in the couple of weeks I had the loaner Mirage from Mitsu.

Wait a minute... now that I think of it, there was one thing I did differently: I bombed across bumps that I would have had to slow waaay down for in my other cars. The Mirage's ridiculously softly sprung suspension could soak it up. So in a way, that could be considered yet another fuel-saving feature of the car I hadn't thought about until just now.

This is my second mirage, so not really... I had a 1.8 litre CE 1997 Mirage that was the best car I've ever owned.... It had more power than this one, but my new one is cuter... I drive to conditions which in my city is pretty quick.... But I've never flattened the accelerator to the floor, I don't flog it, but I make it move...

I tend to slow roll versus mashing the gas. And I don't drive Warp 2, the fastest I've driven is 80mph and that was because I was running late. I don't necessarily hypermile but I do try to maximize fuel efficiency. That's the best way in my opinion to give the two-fingered salute to ExxonMobil, BP, Sunoco, etc. because they don't need any more of my money...

My first volkswagen beetle changed the way I drive. The mirage feels fast to me now, it struggles somewhat on the mountains but every car does around here. Going up a 6% grade from a stop in 1st is a bit rough, have to let the clutch slip more than I would like but its okay.

My driveway is 10 degrees for 100 feet average, even more in spots. My driving for mileage techniques have evolved over the close to 50 years I have been driving. Pop used to hypermile his B17 bomber in WW2. He usually landed with significantly more fuel that anyone else in his squadron, unless his self sealing fuel tanks got shot up.

The term hypermile was way late to the game, most of the techniques came from gas rationing in WW2.

    regards

Hypermiling and very low speeds, because the car is made for very low fuel consumption and motor (especially sound) and gearbox (much too long) of the european version are no fun to drive. It´s too slow to have fun in lower gears. The bord computer and the fuel economy display are reasons, too. I drive my Daihatsu Cuore very different. No higher speeds, but hitting the gas a lot more and revving the motor to higher rpms.
