cvt shifter (durability of plastic parts?)

Guess this is the right place to post (trans related). Noticed the trans shifter assy is mainly plastic. I wonder how durable it is? Do we need to shift the lever with more caution than the old metal ones? Bear with me, I don't work on cars like I used to, seems more critical parts are plastic. Or maybe the have been for years, I don't know. Just surprised me that it's mostly all plastic.
Still getting used to the zig zag cvt shifter pattern also. I am used to the old pushbutton t handle type.

Bet there is some metal under all that plastic. How about the lever on the dash for park and buttons for n-d-2-1, also on the dash.

    regards
