I tried something the last time I filled up. My gas gauge had one bar left, but it was not blinking. So, I should have been able to put, maybe 7 gallons in the car at that time. Well, as the gas pump approached 6.5 gallons, I pulled the nozzle most of the way out of the tank and SLOWLY kept filling the tank. I was able to put in 8.5 gallons in the car!!! Now, on some cars if you do this then the fuel goes and fills up the charcoal canister and you end up with a check engine light that comes on, and a car that runs poorly and gets poor fuel economy.

Well, none of this has happened yet. Typically I have to fill up with fuel every week and the gas gauge drops at about one bar a day. I drove the car until Wednesday before the gas gauge moved at all!! I filled up a week ago today and currently I still have one bar less than half a tank left. There is right at 300 miles on this tank so far. Do I recommend others try this? NO!!! Let me do this for a couple of tanks of fuel to see if a check engine light comes on or if anything bad happens first.

Have you used the NATO or do you know anybody here who has used it for the MIRAGE ? A few years ago, I tried using a similar product (Not called NATO, but Red plastic container it was messy to use).

    Thanks
The issue with any jerry can that it is somewhat messy to pour gas in/out. NATO can is just convenient b/c it is flat, takes less space and slides around less when you turn. But you need a separate downspout to pour gas out vs plastic cans have the downspout built in.

Yesterday evening I had to go by the gas station and fill up with gas. Using the above technique to fill the car up, I was able to drive 405 miles on that tank which is a record for me. One bar was on the gas gauge, but it was flashing. I filled the car up normally and the pump clicked off at 7.2 gallons which is normal. Then using the technique above I put an additional 1.4 gallons in the car for a total of 8.6 gallons! I could have put more in, but until I get under the car and look closely, that is all I wanted to add.

So far still no check engine light and the car is still running fine.

Could always do something crazy like run a fuel cell with a gravity feed line back to the tank. Would need to drill some holes in the truck for the lines and tie in the breather as well but it could be done. Could get fancy with an electronic solenoid as well so it only opens with a switch or when the gas light comes on.

How about evaporation controls? You can flood canister

I was thinking the same thing. Towing would be safer.

You would need to feed the second tank into the evap and breather systems. If I had a Mirage at my disposal I would take a couple of pics and make some plumbing suggestions. If plumbed correctly then all your factory systems would still function as intended. I do feel like you would have less issues if it was a solinoid drain style stup so you don't risk having fuel backed up trying to over fill the tank. You could use the same solenoid that is for example used in the fuel side of most wet nitrous kits

I would rig it so that... gas light comes on, solenoid opens and is held open on a delay timer for a period of several minutes to allow the fuel time to drain down. With this style you would only need to refill the fuel cell when ever its been used or activated. Plus it guarantees that there will be room in the tank when it opens. (Note: The fuel low level light is the only automated option that I know you can use reliably.)

    Just thoughts...

Look people, there is a reason cars are not sold with gasoline stored in the passenger compartment.
