My dealership had one that looked like this: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/503488433317861035/

Not bigger wheels, but orange, and matching an orange stripe - gave a bit of interest to the look.

Small car small brakes, but what's wrong with seeing the springs behind the wheel? Just about all cars with low profiles tires and spokes show the suspension.

That whole entire set up is mismatched. Too large wheel + the low pro tire degrading performance, large spoke gap making the brakes look even smaller, over exposing the suspension because the wheels are too big. Imo it looks mis matched and tacky overall. Once you start going over +1 of oem thing usually get out of proportion.

Larger wheels actually roll better and tackle things like pot holes better than smaller wheels. Low Profile tires handle just fine especially with a light weight vehicle like a DE. Performance would increase, but ride quality would suffer. I like a little more meat on my tires to absorb the road more, but most new cars come with that proportion of wheel/tire profile vs vehicle size. Even with the larger size wheels/tires I put on mine they still make the Mirage look like a clown car because they are so small compared to the vehicle.

EDIT: P.S. I love your Mazda
