You did. You said that the width was obvious 165 vs 175. While the diameter is not due to an aspect ratio of 65.

Ok, I think some incorrectly assume the same aspect ratio would give the tires the same overall diameter, but it's not that simple.

For example - 165/65r14 (22.4"), 175/65r14 (23"), & 185/65r14 (23.5") are not only different widths, but also different diameters. Diameters determine speedometer/odometer readings & could create rubbing issues like added width.

A little. I'm looking at two 14" tires in front of me right meow a 185/60r14 and a 205/70r14. They're the same width even though the 205 should be about an inch wider. You gotta admit, the sizes stamped on the sidewall aren't always the exact same dimensions as what those tires size calculators say they are, especially when comparing two identical sizes from different mfgs. Or is my tinfoil hat to tight today?

    A 185/60r14 has a width of 7.3". Diameter is 22.7".

    A 205/70r14 has a width of 8.1". Diameter is 25.3".

Using a tire calculator makes me feel smart!

I must admit that I have 4 different pairs of 165/65r14 tires (Dunlop, Nokian, Federal, & Nexen), & they all have a different appearance to them. But they are also mounted on different width rims (4.5", 5", & 5.5"), too.

This feels like a Seinfeld episode.

Fummins - My guess is the look the same width, but with air pressure maybe the difference would show up. Simultaneously, there are also manufacturing tolerances to consider, as well as nuances in the design directions between different tire brands. Lot's of possibilities, but again, I bet I'm preaching to the choir.

Fair enough. Arguing and beating dead horses is a jolly good time.

Elaine's comment at the end is perfect! "I don't know how you guys walk around with those things?"

I hate to be off topic, however. Still working on how this is all connected to tires? I blame Fummins for bringing up Seinfeld episodes.
