Fuel Economy Comparison 2006 Civic Hybrid VS 2015 Mirage ES With CVT

Back in the day I purchased a new 2006 Civic Hybrid for $24,500 out the door all taxes and fees. My 2015 Mirage out the door was about $13,500. After 2,700 miles, the Civic had a lifetime fuel economy of 47.2 MPG. After 2,430 miles, the Mirage lifetime fuel economy is 46.2 MPG. So far, clearly the Mirage wins.

And you don't have to worry about the hybrid battery.

Yup. My folks have an '09 Civic Hybrid.

And ... the dealership just ordered the another replacement battery pack. That'll be its third. Fortunately, full warranty coverage, but it's a big inconvenience, and the car's fuel consumption gets progressively worse when the pack starts to wear out.

I told Dad to get a Toyota if he wanted a hybrid -- they're far better engineered/built than the Honda hybrids. But he's stubborn, like me.

Funnily enough: I think he'd prefer driving a Mirage over the Civic anyway. He likes a smooth ride, and the Mirage wins there too!

Yes for whatever reason failure rate on Honda batteries is high. I am glad Toyota went conservative and Prius batteries are holding up, as long as you don't let cooling passages get clogged by dust and dog hair.
