    Check oil hot or cold?

Manual doesn't specify. I changed my oil yesterday and put in 3 quarts, plus 200ml for the filter. Then realized that equals 3038ml, which is 3.21 quarts. So 38ml over, not sure if that matters. Warm the level is right, just below the top dot. Cold, slightly over, not much (less than 1/8" over the top dot).
Not sure if I need to remove any oil or not. I'll remember next time to be more careful. Got mixed up with the English to metric conversions.
    Thanks.

You're fine. It won't be a problem. 1/2 a liter over that might be a issue but only 38ml is not enough to worry about.

I usually put less (in this case 3qt) and then top off. Just make sure that after driving you give it 20 min to drainback through the filter before to checking. If filter is good it may take longer.

38ml will make no difference at all.

Thanks, yeah 38ml is 1.28 oz, .04 of a quart. Not much at all now that I think about it. The 3000ml or 3 liter fill of oil is 3.17 quarts (101.44 oz) and I put in 3.21 (102.72 oz). So should be negligible. Can't imagine 1% or so increase would cause foaming or anything.
As I mentioned, after sitting for 24 hours, the oil is just a hair above the full dot. Car is sitting slightly uneven, my driveway has a rut (driver's side), so not 100% level. Oil level would be just a bit higher possibly on a perfectly level surface.
Still not sure if Mitsubishi recommends warm or cold oil checks, although I found a couple of non-US Mitsubishi sites that specify warm, but not specifically for the Mirage.
Thanks again to all who replied.

Checking hot or cold is also something I wouldn't bother worrying about. If you got your oil changed somewhere, they would start your car and then check the level.

Unless by hot you mean running, which should not be done.

I just changed my oil at 10k (2nd change, 1st for me). I used a 5 quart jug of 0-20 Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 oil filter. I filled to half way on the dipstick markings and I have enough left over for another oil drain and refill in 7500 miles, leaving the filter there until it has 15 k miles on the filter.

This way it costs me about $18 per oil change, $36 every 15 k miles. We'll see how the oil holds up for 7500 miles.

    regards
    mech

^^^ This is what I do with my cars too. I usually fill to about halfway up the dipstick 'normal' range.

Gets slightly better MPG too, but I wouldn't do it on old engine. Just an extra margin if it gets too low.
