5 Speed, Hard to shift into 2nd Gear (solved -- with clutch adjustment)

Is this a well known problem or is it just me? Sometimes 2nd gear is very hard to shift into, it requires a great deal of force while other gears are as smooth as butter. I have around 1700 miles on my mirage now and thought it may just need time to "break in" so to speak, other gears (3rd especially) have gotten much better, but 2nd is still the same.

I aim to bring this up to the dealer and see what they have to say.

    I think it's just you!

I've driven a few different 5-speed Mirages, and they all worked normally in all gears.

Probably worth a visit to the dealer.

No issues with clutch adjustment? How many miles? Perhaps transmission isn't broken in yet?

    Aren't all forward gears synchronized?

Yep, high or low speed, high or low rpm, 2nd gear is pretty much impossible half the time.
Taken it back to dealer to hear "that is normal"

They do need to break in. But they have cable shifters, so something could be out of adjustment.

me too! the first and 2nd gear are quite notchy getting in to..

how can i fix it myself? i made around 37,000km already.

a temp solution I do is I shift if back and forth numerous times though it won't be as smooth as some other 5 speeds I used.. it really is that notchy.

Change the oil in the transmission to a full synthetic 75w-90. Some members have found this has helped. Shouldn't be notchy shifting at all. Make sure your clutch is adjusted correctly.

Correction: 75w80 gl4 as per stated by the manual book , most 75w90 are gl5 and it's bad for the synchros of this type of car

Correct, Gl4 is the corect designation. Many 75w90's are GL4 type fluids. Important to check the label
