Its the two cable ends that go into the top of the tranny. This car has the weirdest shift mech ive seen. Its a crazy compound movement and i can see how it can easily bind. Its right below the battery.

Get a buddy to shift gears for you while you watch you will see what i mean. Spray everything that moves

Aren't there rubber boots that you have to pull back to get the lube IN the cable sheathing? Or, are you just lubing the pivot points?

Just around the pivot joints on the transmission itself. Youll see what im talking about.

I also lubed down near where the cable comes out aswell to try and get some lube down there too

Outside and gear fluid temperatures have a lot to do with ease of shifting.
Shifting from 1st to 2nd requires the most synchronization because of gear/rpm difference.
That, combined with cold transmission fluid makes it seem abnormal.
On 10-20F mornings, it takes me 2-3 seconds of consistent pressure to get into 2nd.

What might improve your shifting is for you to come to terms with the quality, or lack thereof, of the transmission in a sub-$12,000 car.

This would be a perfect DIY thread if someone would be willing to post pics & instructions.

Today I test drove a used 2015 mirage that had 15k miles on it, I observed that shifting into 2nd gear was "notchy" compared to the rest of the gears.

Later that day I went to a dealership to test drive a brand new Mirage (2015) and the shifting felt exactly the same: It was awkward going into second gear, It was notchy

SO my question is this normal? Is that how everybody else's stick shift version drives?

And to those who have lubricated the cables and pivot points did this resolve the issue or will it require a clutch adjustment from the mechanic?
