That is very true. I don't mind it personally because I will keep this one for a long time. It will eventually be a project car that I can mess around with. Maybe the 2018's will be dirt cheap when I am ready to get another. My biggest hope is that they add a RalliArt or Evo version of it at some point with a factory turbo.

Isn't this a temporary situation though? The rebate expires March 31. Next month, new prices will be back to normal.

However right now, agreed, it would be a terrible time to try selling a used one.

Or a perfect time to negotiate buying a used one for insane cheapness.
Custom Mirage products: Cruise control kit, Glove box light, MAF sensor housing, Rear sway bar, Upper grill block

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

    Well.....

It will take some time for the hard-headed owners of the used mirages to "come to terms" with the fact that the new car can be had for $3500 rebate.

Many will dig in their heels and refuse to lower the price until 2 or 3 months have passed and they finally come to terms and are willing to swallow the fact that the price for used mirage has dropped so significantly

Here is a case in point:

    http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/ctd/5448880916.html

If its any consolation: My cell phone has dropped in price much more dramatically than a Mitsubishi Mirage

It was $600 when it came out MSRP and I bought one 2 years later (brand new) for $175. LG G3 That is a 71% drop

2 years after inception just like the 2015 Mirage

Don't bet on it. Mitsubishi created this "fire sale" environment so dealers could blow out their existing stock. Unless a ton of these cars move during March, these rebates may likely be around until the 2015 stock is gone. Dealers don't want these things collecting dust on their lots when the new Mirages show up.

I'm trying to determine how much dealers will discount in addition to the existing rebates. Is a $1500 discount reasonable...or are these low-priced ads just loss leaders to get people's attention???

For example, here's a dealer near me advertising a DE 5-speed:

So that breaks down as follows:

    MSRP...................$13,805
    Dealer Discount.......$1566
    Mitsubishi Rebate.....$3500
    Military Rebate..........$500
    Owner Loyalty...........$250
    Advertised price.......$7989

The only variable above is the Dealer Discount amount. If I can find a dealer who will do this kind of discount on an ES 5-speed, I'll have one by the end of the month.

Wow! $7252 for a brand new car! Absolutely ridiculous! I can't wait. In about two years you will be able to get a 2014 for 3k!
