Yes. The oncoming driver was impatient and misjudged the situation. I was afraid something like this would happen as he was coming on pretty hot.
I had turned onto a two lane residential street - a landscaper's truck & trailer was parked at the curb (on the other side of the street). Instead of waiting his turn behind the trailer, he thought he could squeeze through. That's when he took out my mirror.
Here's the exciting part. He called me over to where he was parked. Once I got there, he took a menacing posture and started accusing me of causing the accident. I told him to hold on - I have a dashcam and the whole incident is recorded. I said we can review the footage, and it will show he crossed the double-yellow line to get around the truck & trailer when he hit me.
At that point he changed his tune. He asked what should we do about it. I said we can have our insurance companies take care of it to which he answered we won't be getting insurance involved here.
He asked me how much for the damages. I followed him to his ATM and he paid me on the spot.
Lessons learned:
1. A clipped mirror is inches away from totaling these little cars.
2. Get a dashcam and know how to use it.
3. Let the dashcam finish closing the video file properly before shutting off the car (I was unable to view the video of the accident! I could view every other video file but that one.)
