My main concern is higher volume. The factory speakers are simply not loud enough for me to hear my audiobooks that I am playing from a USB stick. I mean when I have the windows rolled down

I've noticed that with better quality speakers sound quality is so improved that I don't need the volume turned up as much in order to hear everything. Granted this is with music, but you may find it applies to audiobooks too.

    Here's hoping everything works out.

    Hi Eggman,

I read your garage entry post where you detail your car speaker experience and the Pioneer TS-A1686R that you selected are 60 RMS

But I purchased the Kickers that are 100 RMS. Well, we shall see how mine sound. I am such a newbie that when I saw a higher RMS number I thought that meant they would be BETTER speakers. ANd normally I just buy the cheapest stuff but decided to splurge a little extra and hopefully get medium quality speakers. When I saw open-box speakers at such a discount I jumped on the deal. But there are no refunds or returns so now I have 100 RMS speakers with the factory head unit.

Well, we shall see what happens. I am planning to make a YouTube video and tutorial so we will all see

Here's a nice little amp that might fit your bill:

Amazon - Rockford Fosgate PBR300X4 Punch BRT 300-Watt Ultra Compact 4-Channel Amplifier ($169.95)

•Four-channel, 4-ohm (only) amplifier with 75 Watts x 4 @ 4-Ohms RMS power rating and 300 watts RMS total power
    •Designed for stereo front/rear systems that require little space--just 1.53 x 4.25 x 6.75 inches
•High- and low-level inputs with variable 4-6 volt hi level DC offset voltage input turn-on control
    •Selectable 80Hz LP/AP/80Hz HP filter @ 12dB/Octave
    •One-year limited warranty
This little wonder gets stuffed in motorcycle fairings, so I'm sure there's room for it in the Mirage and I've been curious to know how it would sound. I also wonder how this model amp compares to what Mitsubishi offers in the Mirage RF package.

Actually I already have an amp from my old car Alpine Alpine MRP-F250 (10 years old)

    4-channel car amplifier
    40 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms (50 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms)
100 watts RMS x 2 bridged output at 4 ohms (4-ohm stable in bridged mode)
    2-, 3-, or 4-channel output
    Variable high-pass/low-pass filters (50-400 Hz, 12 dB/octave)
Tuned Bass EQ (12 dB bass boost at 50 Hz for channels 3 & 4)
    Subsonic filter (15 Hz, 24 dB/octave for channels 3 & 4)
    Tri-way capable (Tri-Way Crossover required)
    MOSFET power supply
    CEA-2006 compliant
STAR Topology (minimizes internal noise and prevents ground interference)
    Speaker- and preamp-level inputs
    Preamp outputs
    Gold-plated screw terminals
    Fuse rating: 15A x 2
10-gauge power and ground leads recommended — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
    11-1/4"W x 2-3/8"H x 9-9/16"D

But I did not hook it up because I am too paranoid that Mitsubishi will use the amp as an excuse to deny me warranty coverage if I ever have an electrical problem in the car. I have seen dealers do this to people in the past
