I am using Mobil 1 0W20, and am changing it every 7,500. I use the car for delivery. Not quite taxi service rough on the engine, but not quite freeway commuter easy on it, either.

When I change the oil it looks like it is ready to be changed, but doesn't look like black paint. Were I to let the oil go 7,500 miles in my Geo, that's exactly how it would have looked.

Color of the oil doesn't really mean much. They've shown that clean looking oil can be dirtier than black oil.

Especially oil from a diesel engine, as diesel mixed with oil makes it black af

In Germany, oil change interval is 20000 km for the Space Star, too. But that´s a rather short interval and most Japanese car makers get bad press reports very often for being that antiquated.

Since I drive a lot for German relations with the Space Star, the oil will be changed every 7-8 months. Since oil consumption is really low and the oil looks good after 15000 km so far (35000 total), the change interval is no problem for me.

12500 too short? Although I have read some European intervals are 15k or higher. Not that I make a habit of over extended changes, but.....from experience, ran Castrol GTX 'back in the day' in a Mustang to 12k on a regular basis. Sold the car with close to 150k miles and excellent oil pressure. Looked clean inside also (from what I could see). I have to agree with the Europeans....we change oil unnecessarily often. 12500 to 15000 miles is probably just fine.

Follow the owners manual. Once your out of warranty do what you feel is right. I'm switching to 10k mile oci once I'm out of warranty. I use gl5 rated oil which is a higher rated synthetic and super expensive, plus I use a filter designed for 15k miles

Then there is Canada. Regular maintenance schedule is 8000 km (5000 miles) or 5 months, and severe schedule is 6000 km (4000 miles) or 3 months. I'm supposed to have 50% more oil changes than my neighbours in Washington State, and 2.5 times more than Germany. I can see Washington State from my house!

    Wow!

Does Mitsubishi think their Canadian dealers use peanut or coconut oil?

However, generally speaking, in Europe we have the best lubricants in the world.

I don't believe it's based on regional oil, since it comes with Mitsubishi brand oil and they recommend their oil and filter. Maybe it's due to percentage of warranty claims in a particular area?
