Chicago Tribune - nothing new (Mirage vs. Ford Fiesta)

    I just like the first line . . .

It could be the cutest little automotive cage match in recent memory.

In one corner, you have the all-new Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback, introduced Thursday at the 2013 New York International Auto Show. In the other, the 1.0-liter Ford Fiesta, announced at the L.A. Auto Show in November.

Each subcompact has promised to be the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid car sold in the U.S. Only one can win. But which will it be?

    That's funny!

You've also seen:2014 Mirage 1.2 vs. Ford Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost - which has better mileage/fuel economy?

(Just FYI, I trimmed the amount of text you quoted from the Tribune site. We can get in trouble for copy/pasting whole articles, though it is accepted use to quote short selections.)

I actually don't. I hope the Ecoboost is tremendously successful, and the Mirage as well. I hope the "cute cage match" goes so well that all the other car companies feel compelled to compete with their own hyper-efficient models. We all suspect the auto industry is capable of much more than what they are currently offering vis-a-vis MPG - when the buyers demand it, they will produce it; That is my hope.
