Thread: Is the mirage fly by wire?

  1. #11
I can't say I've run into that before. All ours are cvt's but still. I see on your other post's you were using lots of oil and lost power.

Is your car shaking more than usual, any check engine light on or flashing? My first shot in the complete dark would be bad ignition coil or low fuel pressure. If you have to rev it more than usual I'd guess all cylinders aren't firing properly. Maybe pull the spark plugs and see how they look. If I recall, you only need a 10mm to get the air cleaner and coils off. Plugs are 5/8(16mm) I think?

I wouldn't go blindly throwing parts at it. Find out whats wrong first.

For the third time, do you have a check engine light on?

Don't all manual transmission cars my Mirage included shut off when you let your foot off the clutch? My old VW Rabbit certainly was like that and it was a 5 speed manual too.

I'm not exactly following the whole thread, but aren't these cars just typically hard to drive at low speeds? The stop go traffic "work out" why only 3% of Americans buy manuals

Your gas pedal is nothing more than a video game controller.

Let's hope car manufactures don't decide to do the same thing with steering wheels in the future.

I've lost throttle twice in this car and it's pretty freaking scary.

If you still have a warranty on the vehicle, I suggest taking it in to the dealer and seeing if they can find anything wrong with it.

Typical RPM when stopped idling should be about 750 - 1000. If its lower than that you have a problem. If its in that range, it is normal.

Do you own a 5 speed Mirage?

I don't mean impossibly hard to drive. I mean my Mirage is a pain driving at 5 miles an hour because it's a stick shift, and as Roy was experiencing the car can be jerky and touchy, and mine def can easily stall at low speed. Very well may be that's the only issue our friend from Norway is having

I notice a huge difference when I have AC on or not. With AC, its much easier to stall...I got used to it, but when I have family use the car who drive less stick I almost have to tell them to shut the AC off to get used to the car.

There's a whole bunch of posts in here so far assuming the guy has no idea how to drive a stickshift. Yeah the car makes like 6hp at idle but it's also a featherweight. I have yet to stall this car.

Besides he's stated several times that it chokes out at initial throttle input.

You are running incredibly rich by the sounds of it, whether by program (sensors) or by fault (improper combustion).

What fuel economy are you currently getting?
How long have you had the car for?
Has the fuel mileage become worse over time/since this problem started?
They all have tachometers don't they? What rpm is it idling at?
Does it feel down on power full throttle once rolling?
When was your last oil change? Air filter? General tune up?
What other issues showed up around the same time as this problem?
Was this sudden or a slow onset?
And finally, do you actually know how to drive stickshift?

But thank you, good man. I'll just settle with it, since others in here have the same problem. I'll keep jerking around
Alright, so I'm actually trying to help you and that's the response I get?

Also last time I checked, America had the most stick shifts on the road for a good long time. You know, when we mass produced them.
