I think they're referring to resale value after a certain number of years (probably 3 years). However, I wondered how can they know this now when the car is brand new on the market? Must be using a projection based on other Mitsubishi models.

No they're not! They're shod with low rolling resistance (LRR) tires. It's a misconception that LRR tires are necessarily low grip. (Though perhaps these are.)
