1178 Space Stars sold in the Netherlands since February

Since the Dutch introduction of the Space Star in February, 1178 cars have been sold. Willem Jan Oosterveld of Mitsubishi Motors Netherlands (MMN) expects to sell 2000 to 2500 Space Stars this year.

When people decide to buy a Space Star, they trade in their Kia Picanto, Suzuki Alto, Ford Ka, Hyundai i10 and Daihatsu Sirion. And it's funny but true, a lot of Dutchmen with an old Space Star want a 2013 model.

The luxurious 1.0 'Intense' (manual gear box) is the best seller. MMN's mister Oosterveld believes that the Space Star does well because the car follows the downsizing trend in the Netherlands and is free of road tax until January 2014.

    Thanks for that, talldino.

The 1.0, meaning the 1 litre engine model being the best seller?

And it's interesting that people with the old Space Star want the new one. I understand the old one was quite a different vehicle - more of a small MPV (mini-minivan). Thus the "space star" name.

    Hi MetroMPG,

Yes, it's rather surprising that the 1 liter engine is more popular than the 1.2 in the Netherlands. Why people with the old Space Star are going to have a look at the new one? I can't explain that, it's the ultimate form of downsizing! Here is a photo of the Space Star that was for sale in this country ten years ago:
