    air pressure sensor replacement?

    Hi,
I'm trying different wheels and such.
Is there anyway to get the air pressure sensor out w/out destroying it so I can transfer it to another wheel?

The sensor, yes! Depress the metal tab and it slides off the valve stem.
Valve stem,no! I don't know of a way to remove it (and not destroy it)once it was pulled through the hole. Get Mitsu valve stems for the new rims and you can transfer the sensors.

The sensors themselves are easily removed from the valve stems once a tech has access to the inside of the wheel.

Here is an actual TPMS sensor from a Mirage...

Like 3dplane said, to remove the sensor from the valve stem, you just press on the metal tab where it says PRESS, and then pull the sensor off. To re-install, just press the sensor onto the valve stem until it clicks into place.

The rubber valve stems are not re-usable. Once they have been installed, they are in your wheel until they are cut out. These aren't very expensive anyway and should be replaced every time you are installing new tires. Once the valve stem has been installed, you can re-use your existing sensors by clipping them on to the new valve stems. Side note - Discount Tire charged me $8 for each replacement valve stem (yes...$32 for 4 of them!!!) I'm sure you can buy these for $2 each at your local parts store.

Here's an animation video that gives you an overview of how it's done...

And here's an actual video of how it's done...

Great info guys. I did figure out the press and slide. I think I saw some valve stems w/ the slide on post at O'Reillys. Let ya know what I find out. In the mean time I put some tape on the lens in front of the tire pressure light.
