The stock pads are semi-metallic, so you could switch to ceramics. They may last longer, and they will produce less brake dust. But they won't 'bite' like the metallics do, you will wear rotors out faster (ceramics are harder), and they won't perform as well when cold.

Truth be told, the brakes on the early Mirages are a bit, well...'third world'. Not really designed for US road speeds, and that is why they were improved significantly for the '17 model.

The brakes are so easy to change on these that I don't really mind the shortened service interval. Once my car is off warranty, I will be using aftermarket pads, which I hope hold up a little better than the stock Akebonos.

Something is either our of whack, or you are way to hard on your brakes. Going through pads every 25,000 miles is too fast even with the small brakes that came on the pre 2017 models. I have about 45K miles and my pads are doing well. Maybe break softer? Or have a good mechanic look at things? Are your drums doing anything for example?

I think it depends not only on how you drive, but the terrain where you live. Lots of hills are going to make them wear out faster, but they may well last forever if you live in the panhandle of Oklahoma.

I got around 35k out of mine (and I am not hard on the brakes). I have heard of people getting as little as 15k out of a stock set.

As I said, the brakes on these cars can barely be considered 'adequate'. Just the nature of the beast...

I would go with ceramic brake pads. That is what I put on everything. Less dust, longer change intervals, still stops fine.
